7 Ukulele Highlights -NAMM 2013

The ukulele is popular for many good reasons. This was very evident at NAMM 2013. So many new makers!! This blog will show you some of the instruments that stuck out for me.

What is NAMM?  It stands for National Association of Music Merchants, the main annual music trade show. 4 days of dissonance and claustrophobia.Still, I love it. Here’s 7 reasons why.

Uke highlights from NAMM 2013

1. Godin Chambered Electric Tenor
MGM samples Multiuke prototypes at NAMM 2013
The Godin company has been making this in a guitar version for many years.
Many guitarists use them on tour because of their their wonderful acoustic tone and live feedback resistance.

2. Mike Dasilva’s red & blue Quilted Super Concerts

A thinner body tenor and spruce top add quick response
and ringing sustain that’s a signature to DaSilva’s voicing.

3. Ohana

Higher end models are still amazingly affordable.  For instance..

All solid! spruce /mahogany  tenor is just over $200!  or for $350….

Tenor, Solid Sinker Redwood Top, Solid Rosewood Back/Sides, Rope Binding!

4. Pono

Two new models,both Pro-Classic.
The Cedar Macassar, and the Spruce top, wi ava’ava.
Hawaiian Koa is being used for bindings.
Pro Classics will ALL have radius fretboards now!

5. National Resophonic

American made
Hot Rod of Uke

6.Loprinzi 5 string

This 5 string is a favorite in the store now.
