2015 Photo Contest Winners

Aloha friends. A big Mahalo to all that participated in the photo contest this year. I don’t know if we will do it again because I hate monitoring votes. We have an advanced way to make sure the contest is fair, but it’s tedious and unfortunate. Of course people can find ways to cheat. But I guarantee our winner was legitimate. I had to delete a few hundred double votes from her, as I did others. And I had to disqualify 5 people for consistent violation of the rules. But Janice won the contest of popular votes. Period. I asked her how she did it and she revealed her strategy, “I sent emails twice daily and posted a new Ukulele song on Facebook at least once per day”. She worked it and her friends came to our website to support her.

Congratulations Janice.  The next 10 photos were selected based on their quality, creativity, and composition and will be awarded $100 in their customer account at http://theukulelesite.com

There were many that we liked but we only had 10 spots to fill. Thank you for your kind understanding.

Click on the photos to enlarge and see some thoughts on why it was chosen.

Leave comments and questions below. If you are one of the winners maybe you can share with us the equipment you used, if you want. Thanks again and visit our store –The Ukulele Site Aloha!

  1. Congratulations to all of the prize winners. I’ve entered all three years and have totally enjoyed the contest but would completely understand if Andrew decided that the hassles associated with the sorting out of the voting just wasn’t worth doing.

  2. Well done to all the winners! There are some great pics! But besides Janice’s winning picture, I only count 9 pictures selected for the extra prizes, are there not meant to be 10? Please hold the competition again next year, this one caught me by surprise, I was looking forward to the challenge of trying to take a really great pic for next year! 🙂

Really?! Lol, I thought I could count! Better go back and check, I had nearly 50 I absolutely loved. Someone else may be a winner. I’ll look soon and add it to this page if that’s the case.

  3. Congratulations to Janice and the other winners. I am one of the voters for Janice. I couldn’t wait each morning to see her video. My Facebook friends enjoyed the videos as well. Her songs were great and she thoroughly loves playing the ukulele.

  4. A huge thank you to Andrew and the HMS folks for organising this contest. Really appreciate you doing your best to keep it as fair as possible.

Those best 10 photos are all so lovely. 😀 There were also quite a few others that I really liked. Must have been tough deciding on just those few. I great fun looking at all the creative ways to express our love for the ukulele.

No doubt. I downloaded so many and kept going back and forth. I don’t think I was meant for this type of judgement. It’s bothered me all day and I have real work to get done! I feel like it would be silly of me to do it again as much as I admired and enjoyed so many beautiful photos and emotions with the ukulele. My apologies to all of those with such beautiful creative work gone unrewarded and to those who pushed their friends to vote only to come up short. But thank you guys for playing anyway and I promise this much, with the real service we provide, we won’t disappoint.

  5. I really enjoyed looking at the photos for the contest and remember last year’s. I myself entered and don’t feel disappointed…maybe just a little, but all the wins were well-deserved. I hope you do it again next year!

  6. Hey There! I’m a Janice friend and supporter. I’ve heard her play the ukulele at church but got to enjoy so many songs because of this contest. It was fun to wake up each morning and vote and listen to beautiful music. I enjoyed the contest, all the beautiful pictures, the music and the website. This contest has made me a ukulele fan!

Andrew: I feel your pain…my job requires that I critique and judge others….it’s really hard. You may consider getting together a little committee to help you. This was too much fun for you to discontinue doing it!!

  7. Thank you Andrew and Hawaii Music Supply, for putting on this contest. You guys are the greatest!!!!!! Not because of the contest and not because I won but because I know that you guys do care about your customers and about your product.

I had a great time with the contest and as mentioned earlier, I posted a new Ukulele song each day to encourage my voters to vote for me. And they did just that, they came out and voted daily. To say I am overwhelmed by their generosity is an understatement!! They listened to my bad singing and playing and were patient to go out and vote for my picture. I am hearing stories now of how my friends did go and ask their friends and family to vote for me. Through this chain of love, I am overwhelmed and grateful. Thank you all!!!! I am a blessed individual!!!

    1. Congrats Janice! Thank you for a fun contest, Andrew. And congrats to the 10 winners as well. My fave among those is the solo uke pointing at the sunset, but I can’t argue with any of them and they’re all great.

  8. Hey! I am the one of the “tonight you belong to me” pic. So glad I could be one something! Thanks to Andrew and all the staff. Regarding the equipment used, my wife took the pic using an iPhone 6 and I am using a simple and cheap laminated Uke with no brand. My daughter is using a Pono Mahogany Soprano. Thanks for the prize! I guess I will buy a third Uke for my newborn girl, Consuelo (also in the pic).
    Regards and thanks again!
